CCP Praises Gaddafi

Anchor:

After the UN established the no-fly zone in Libya,

coalition forces consisted of seven countries

including France, U.S., and Britain

carried out air strikes to Libya since last Saturday.

Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi refused

to step down. Abstained from the UN vote

to establish the no-fly zone,

the Chinese Communist Party praised Gaddafi

in its official media s as “an independent-minded

man who does not like extravagance."

The coalition launched second wave air strike

on March 21, and blew up an office building

in Gaddafi's compound. The coalition claimed

the air strike was to destroy Gaddafi 『s "ability

to command and control forces." Libya announced

ceasefire for the second time.

Meanwhile on March 21, Libya』s rebel forces

were still bombarded

by Gaddafi's military vehicles and artillery.

While the whole world is condemning Gaddafi,

on March 20, the communist party』s mouthpiece,

the Chinese Central TV (CCTV) had a special

report titled “Gaddafi, A Man with His Own Will.”

CCTV』s report says: “For over 40 years, Gaddafi』s

slightly mysterious independence led to

a lot of speculations on him and Libya.

Gaddafi grew up in a nomadic society.

He advocates natural justice among tribes,

and opposes extravagance and luxury.”

So, praised by the CCP as opposing luxury, how

wealthy is Gaddafi? How much benefit did he get

from oil trade during his 42-year dictatorship?

According to Deutsche Welle, Libyan writer

and political scientist, Assanoussi Albseikri, says

Gaddafi and his family take the country』s money

as their own. Libyan opposition leader

Mohammad Abdelmalek estimates

Gaddafi』s assets to be $80 billion,

and his entire family』s assets to be up to $150 billion.

Last week, CCP abstained during the vote at UN.

In fact, it quietly allows airstrike over Libya. But on

March 21, the CCP』s mouthpieces, People』s Daily

and Xinhua News Agency openly criticized U.S.

and the allies for violating international law

and interfering with other country』s internal affairs.

VOA quoted Reuters』 analysis that CCP』s

high pitch criticism reveals Beijing』s dilemma

in the Middle East affairs: the Chinese regime

wants to connect to the West and agreed

with Western countries; but it also wants to pursue

its business and energy interests.

Before Libyan people rebelled, CCP state-owned

China National Petroleum Group and Libyan

oil companies were working together to build

an oil and natural gas pipeline network,

with a total value of more than $10 billion.

China has more than 30,000 workers there.

German』s Der Spiegel weekly magazine reported

that Beijing is “a loyal business partner of Gaddafi.”

It says: “It seems Beijing could not wait. It sent

an oil ship on March 10 to get $230 million

worth of oil from Libya.”

On March 22, CCP Foreign Ministry spokeswoman

Jiang Yu called for an immediate ceasefire again.

However, the attitudes of many Chinese netizens

contradict the Chinese authorities. They expressed

that the eradication and overthrow of dictators

is a universal principle.

Mainland writer Han Han also stated on his blog

that there is no internal affairs regarding dictators.

Killers should be overthrown and eradicated.
