People』s Interpretation of Wen Jiabao』s Report

The “Government Work Report” was delivered

by Premier Wen Jiabao during the two meetings.

The report mentioned increasing budget to improve

people』s lives, and controlling government expenditure.

Chinese people interpret such messages differently.

China announces it has surpassed Japan in GDP

and become the second largest economy in the world.

Yet tens of thousands of mass incidents

pertaining to corruption and social injustice

occur in China each year.

Ms. Cui, an appealer from Guangzhou believes that

such government work report shows the CCP

is afraid that the oppressed people may become

a united force against it.

“There are so many mistreated people, 50,000 in

Guangzhou alone. We have nobody to turn to.

If it continues like this, these people will stand up

for themselves. The CCP is afraid of the people

being united.”

Li Yuanlong, former Bijie Daily reporter believes that

the CCP is putting up a show to calm the people』s

anger in order to stay in power.

“The problems in people』s livelihood are threatening

the CCP』s power, so it brings up these issues again,

putting up a show to calm down people』s anger,

and to silence the public voice.”

Wen Jiabao』s report also stressed on controlling

government expenditure in vehicle use, travel, and

guest reception.

Beijing rights activist Mr. Zhao believes, these are

empty promises unless the political system changes.

“I do not have confidence in his words.

Without structural changes to the political system,

without free press or independent jurisdiction,

these are nothing but empty promises.”

Although the Chinese media are rapidly circulating

the CCP』s propaganda during the two meetings,

Chinese people can no longer be fooled.

Just as the following poem written by netizens says:

Meeting

or no meeting

All is useless

Report

or no report

The problems

remain
