Heavy rain has been battering a large swath of southwest and central China since last Saturday.

Rains triggered a landslide in a quarry in southwest China’s Guanxi Province on Monday.

The landslide engulfed a makeshift dormitory belonging to 23 quarry workers, state media reported.

Five people died and another 17 are still missing.

In central Hunan Province, three workers were trapped in an excavator when floodwaters surged around them.

In Mianyang, in southwest Sichuan Province, two men became trapped on an island in the center of a flooded river when fishing.
