PX Project Questioned

Typhoon Plum swept through Dalian, Liaoning on August 8,

causing the collapse of Fujiadahua Dam under construction,

threatening a toxic PX reserve tank only 20 meters away,

and the safety of the Dalian people.

A CCTV reporter went to interview but was beaten,

the latest airing of the 』News 1+1』 program were 『killed』 again.

Local netizens insulted Xia Deren,

Party Secretary of Dalian.

On August 8, wind speeds reached Level 8 in Dalian,

with waves rising up to 20 m high.

The dam』s collapse caused the sea water to enter a factory,

threatening about 20 PX (paraxylene) reserve tanks.

Each reserve tank is about 30 m high

and covers an area as large as a basketball court.

Authorities deployed thousands of police

for emergency rescue, evacuating nearby residents.

The authorities claimed the danger is under control,

and there was no leakage of chemical raw materials.

However, local people are still in a panic,

and tens of thousands fled even in a heavy rain.

CCTV and other TV stations』 reporters tried to enter the area

but were beaten by dozens of employees, who smashed their cameras.

Besieged along with the reporters were the Deputy

Secretary-General of Dalian Municipal Committee,

the Director of Municipal Propaganda department and the

Director of Public Security Bureau in Dalian Jinzhou Area.

Currently 11 are held by the police, suspected in the beating.

Dalian Municipal Government held a meeting on August 9,

insisting that there is no leak.

Former Hong Kong』s 『Wen Wei Po』 reporter Jiang Weiping

said the Dalian authorities did not tell the truth.

Jiang Weiping (ex-reporter, HK 『Wen Wei Po』): "I think

there is definitely a leak, but to what extent?

Is it so serious as described by online media?

I』m not sure as I wasn』t at the scene.

I think the officials would like to cover it up." (Radio Free Asia)

On August 9, CCTV』s 』News 1+1』 hosted by Bai Yansong

broadcasted a trailer on investigation of Dalian』s PX project.

But after a long line of advertising,

it was replaced by a rerun of Focus Interview.

That 』News 1+1』 show』s topic was that in the past six

months were 3 key state projects having major accidents.

They were oil depot fire, explosion and dam collapse.

Trailer showed Bai and his program with all firepower.

Later Bai said on his microblog, expressing his frustration:

"Tonight's show was canceled,

because we received a call two seconds before its airing

to take it down without questions. We had to take it down at once."

This is Bai』s second 『News 1+1』 which was 『killed.』

On July 25, Bai questioned strongly the Ministry of Railways』

spokesman, Wang Yongping.

As a result, the 『News 1+1』 was taken off air the next day.

The International Correspondents Association

expressed its protest against these actions.

With Wenzhou』s train tragedy, people learned from Bai

about a law in Western political science called 『Tacitus trap.』

“When a department loses credibility, whether it tells

the truth or a lie, whether it does good or bad,

it will be considered telling lies, and doing bad things.”

『News 1+1』 was taken down again, causing enthusiastic

discussions among netizens. Netizen 『Hospitality』 said: "It's so powerful.

It seems Dalian』s Chemical has its back covered,

so that the CCTV kneels at the expense of its credibility.

CCTV elites, will you die kneeling down together

with someone?!"

Local netizens cursed Xia Deren, Party Secretary of Dalian,

accusing him of starting this project against people』s will.

Now it becomes a time bomb over Dalian people』s heads.

Xia Deren is Jiang Zemin's nephew. He and Bo Xilai,

a former Party Secretary of Dalian and Liaoning Governor,

are sued in the US and Australia by Falun Dafa practitioners

for genocide, crimes against humanity and torture.

Fujia Dahua』s annual output is 700,000 tons of PX.

Its first site in Xiamen drew thousands of protestors.

Later on the plant was moved to Dalian.

In 2010, Dalian oil tanks had six explosions.

Then the PX project was moved to Fujia Dahua, where PX

poisonous gases leaked. Locals said they live in daily fear.

China Economic Net reported, FuJia Dahua PX project

and breakwater dam were not approved before construction.

They do not meet the international requirements

of the plant having to be 100 kilometers away from a city.

After the dam collapse incident, Dalian government set up

an investigation team to evaluate how to relocate the project.

Youth Daily published on August 10 an article entitled

"The power collapse behind PX Dalian,"

pointing out that all these shoddy projects are

due to a widespread corruption amongst communist officials.
