Wang』s Orange Dress

Yuja Wang, boasted to be the female equivalent of Lang Lang,

recently performed at Hollywood Bowl, California.

She wore an orange off-the-shoulder short dress. The dress

astonished audiences and sparked considerable controversy.

There are no traditional moral norms expressed

in Chinese Communist Party (CCP) text books.

Mainland Chinese born in the 1980s are unaware of what is

universally acceptable in the western world.

On August 3, wearing a tight and revealing off-the-shoulder

short dress, Wang played classical music in Hollywood Bowl.

Although technically impeccable, music critic Mark Swed

from the Los Angeles Times,

said she was “some sort of cocky classical music cyborg”

because of her outrageous dress.

Swed』s comment received much attention from netizens

in China. They think Wang showed no respect or sobriety.

What Wang wore was a completely contrary to classical style.

Erhu artist Li Yun said, when playing the Chinese traditional

instrument, she must wear the national dress to fit its style.

Li Yun: “Whether born in the 1980s or 1990s,

they do not have a traditional Chinese education.

Wang has no idea of real Chinese tradition, and she does not

know what is a real beauty, real Chinese national beauty.

It is different from the beauty pursued by modern people.”

Painter Cao Zuimeng, who used to be a professor at the

Chinese Academy of Arts, said art is higher than life.

Exaggeration of art on stage is understandable, but is only

acceptable when it is restricted within the framework of art.

Cao Zuimeng: “Under the management of current art in the

mainland, many align themselves with this kind of ugly art.

We have already seen the result of appreciation of the

disgraceful, like in language, morality, social consciousness.

Indeed, in China』s bizarre circumstances,

some people gain fame by being disgraceful.

It is horrible from the perspectives of

social culture and sociology.”

Wang was born in the 1980s, learnt piano at age 6,

attended Central Conservatory of Music at age 7,

and entered Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia

at age 15. Lang Lang studied at Curtis Institute, as well.

Wang described herself on Facebook as

an egocentric, shameless prima donna...

have the possibility of turning to a geisha.

Li Yun: “Because of the CCP』s text books, she was unable to

accept traditional Chinese culture education.

Those books do not teach what the real moral norm is,

how to show filial piety and respect to elders.

Under the CCP』s rule,

school textbooks do not contain these things.”

Li also pointed out that because of the lack

of traditional culture and moral education,

the young Chinese people of today would do many such things.

Li pointed out that they have little or no sense of right and wrong.
