Sina Microblog Fakes Users

Microblog has become a channel where Chinese people can

express their anger and dissatisfaction.

But recently, several microblog accounts were closed and

some influential netizens』 accounts were even stolen.

Also, many Internet media even established the so-called

"Anti-Microblog Rumors Group."

Some scholars believe that such behavior of website Sina』s

Microblog is against the law.

Others believe that the Internet and Microblog indicate

progress in humanity and to ban them is against this trend.

The Beijing Internet Administration Office recently called on

chief editors from several major Internet media like Qianlong,

Sina, Sohu, Netease,Ifeng, etc, to study the executive

plans issued by the five ministries and commissions.

The office required that the Internet should be regulated

further on news dissemination,

to avoid harmful and untrue information.

This is another action to intensify internet control after

Beijing』s Communist Party (CCP) chief

visited the offices of Sina and Youku.

Many netizens said that

whenever they make some so-called sensitive comments,

or spread some pictures and videos of mass activities,

their microblog accounts are closed without any notice.

Xinjiang-based microblogger Hu Jun said that

he always has such problems.

Hu Jun said: "Sometimes the Microblog does not close your

account, but your messages will get stuck

when being sent out or filtered,

because they have sensitive words in them.

Things like this happen all the time."

The Associated Press commented that after the CCP

required media to intensify Internet censorship,

Sina formed the "Anti Microblog Rumors Group,"

which is blocking the “false speech."

The China Times in Taiwan believes that the CCP is afraid of

those group websites, which act the major roles in protests

and might strike CCP』s domination

and bring democratic waves like

those in North Africa and Middle East to China.

Hu Jun believes that everyone needs the freedom of speech

just like people have to breathe freely.

This is a must for social progress. But the CCP intends to

control the media and goes against the human civilization.

Hu Jun: "Microblog and Internet are two major inventions

to promote the progress of human civilization.

But the CCP tries to use them to stop the progress.

It makes people realize how evil the CCP is."

From the actions of the major internet media, people can

see the CCP』s extensive control of the Internet.

The chief executive of Sina revealed that over 100 staff in

Sina are monitoring the microblog messages 24 hours a day.

In turn, qianlong.com said that a major effort of advocating

the achievement of each area is under way;

Sohu said that this action is an opportunity to reflect on

news reporting; NetEase claimed to form a censorship group

to monitor online interaction and include censorship

into the evaluation of employees.

A senior media professional, Bei Feng, published an article

on his microblog, titled "Evidence of Sina』s Assistance to Evil"

and claimed that his account was closed on July 25 and

there is even a fake account which uses his name and

publishes verses on overthrowing the CCP.

Bei Feng believes he』s being framed.

Zhao Lianhai, an activist for children harmed during the 2008

Chinese milk scandal, said that there are persons misappropriating his account. Another media professional,

Jia Jia said that his account profile was also altered.

Xie Wen, the former president of Yahoo China,

said that to steal microblog accounts is illegal.

He disagrees that the current disorder in society results

from platforms like Facebook and Twitter.

Xie Wen: "As long as there are social conflicts,

problems are doomed to happen sooner or later.

Now some officials want to control or even abolish media

like microblog. These actions are undoubtedly wrong."

Jiao Guobiao, a former associate professor in Peking

University』s School of Journalism, also believes that

The recent mass protest of tens of thousands in Dalian

against a PX factory indicates the power of microblogging.

Jiao Guo: "Our constitution promises everything,

including freedom of press, speech, rally and demonstration,

but actually there』s none of that.

Just like what Zhang Wenying says, except for following the CCP』s lead, none of the constitution is realized.

Those who established the laws destroyed the laws."

NTD reporters Chang Chun, Song Feng and Wang Mingyu.
