More Suppression of Independent Candidates in Chengdu.

On Jan 8th, over 10 independent candidate representatives

of regional People's Congress went to get their

recommendation form for candidacy in Chengdu,

Sichuan province.

However, they were violently suppressed by more than

50 security officers.

One candidate had his cell phone smashed and

another was stunned.

The next day, over 20 more candidates tried to get their

recommendation forms.

They were also refused by authorities with various excuses.

On the morning of January 9th, Hu Jinqiong and more than

20 other independent candidates in Chengdu city

went to receive their recommendation forms,

but were denied by authorities with various excuses.

Hu Jinqiong:”In Shuangliu County, nobody managed to get

the (recommendation) form.

Like in Dongcun, Jiujiang or Huangshui,

none of us have got the form.

Local civilians are looking forward to it.

They expect us to speak for them.

So I just hope to be elected as a representative of these

ordinary people.”

In Chengdu, a new election round for county representatives

of People's Congress will be held in February.

Authorities have announced that the “recommendation form”

has to be submitted to local community agencies by Feb. 9th. This is the only way to become an eligible candidate.

Gan Xingyan, Independent candidate in Chengdu: ”They

won't be able to get the form today (Feb 9).

The authority is playing tricks and you can't expect to get

the form from them in the future.”

In the afternoon of Feb. 8th, Gan Xingyan, Zhuang Fuyin

and other independent candidates went to the Shuangliu

People Congress Agency for the recommendation form.

They were besieged by more than 50 security officers.

In particular, Gan was savagely beat and

injured until she lost her consciousness.

Gan Xingyan:”At that time I was holding Zhuang Fuyin's

hand. I said, “How can you pull his body?”

Only with this single sentence, someone came to seize my

hair and pushed me to the ground.

My head, abdomen and other body parts were kicked.

He also stepped on my face and body.”

Another independent candidate, Xin Wenrong was also

harassed, with his cell phone smashed.

Gan Xingyan:”Xin's cell phone was smashed in the morning

when he went to the community agency to get the form.

He got denied and there were some oral conflicts.

He planned to record the conversation with his cell phone,

which was consequently broken by the officers.”

Last year, the suppression on independent candidates had

happened throughout China.

In Chengdu, nearly all the 70-some candidates for

representative of city People's Congress were kidnapped.

They are also being kept under house detention

or surveillance .

Hu Jinqiong said that the authorities tried to embarrass them.

They required other civilians to sign the recommendation

form right before the officer.

(Hu Jinqiong):”Yesterday (Feb 8) our local official informed

us to receive the recommendation form today.

When we went there this morning, the party secretary,

Luo Honghu told us that,

if we want to become candidates from recommendations,

then we have to bring civilians here to sign on the form.”

Hu said, most ordinary people are kindhearted but

nevertheless timid.

They don't have the courage to sign the form

before local officials.

On the other hand, Hu said she wouldn't retreat from the

election no matter how the CCP regime suppressed them.

Huang Qi, the founder of China Tianwang Human Rights

Service, believes that, it is the large number of candidates. This terrified the CCP.

Huang Qi: ”There are many independent candidates in

Chengdu, which has troubled the CCP a lot.

We all know that the “wolf's tactics” are very effective

at any time. It is easy to control two or three candidates.

But if there are a number of candidates, this situation

will change.

Just imagine, whom should you aim at when there

are so many of them?”

Huang Qi commented that, the unscrupulous suppression

to stop Chinese citizens from legally participating in elections

can only intensify social conflicts, consequently leading to

more massive protests.

He hoped that the authorities could stop the crackdown and

carry out the election legally in a just, fair and transparent way.
