The Trade War makes Taiwan Business Transform into automated R&D of agricultural machinery belts

【新唐人亞太台 2019 年 10 月 16 日訊】Rubber products are also on the tariff list of the US-China trade war. Chih-Sung Chang, the Chairman of one of the top 3 rubber drive belt manufacturers of Taiwan mentioned that there is an obvious growth of domestic orders and overseas inquiries, which prompted industrial transformation. According to Chih-Sung Chang, the plant has incrementally introduced the Industry 4.0 automated production system in response to the huge demand in the future.

The layering of densely populated yarns on the rubber surface and cover with another layer of rubber is critical for the tenacity and stability of rubber belts. This rubber drive belt giant of Taiwan has been established for more than 40 years, it has accounted for 90% of the belts used in home appliances and washing machines. Industry 4.0 has been introduced to all of its production facilities. Its unique process technology makes the company a designated partner of many big enterprises in Taiwan.

“In Taiwan, the Formosa Group has used our products. They are demanding in terms of quality.

They have a few chemical plants.

Some of these plants have higher demands for the levels of ozone resistance and acid-alkali resistance. We have to conform to their product requirements,” said Chih-Sung Chang, the Chairman of a rubber drive belt manufacturing factory in Taiwan.

Rubber products are listed as items subject to tariff under the US-China trade war. There have been obvious growth in domestic orders and overseas inquiries, said Chairman Chih-Sung Chang. Two years ago, he researched on the development of the drive belt exclusively used in agricultural machinery in order to develop the US market, and he aimed at producing mid- to high-end products for differentiation.

“The temperature of the oil drilling zones in Russia is usually at -40°C to -50°C. Rubber will become embrittled at such a low temperature. As such, we have developed some top-quality products capable of withstanding frigid temperatures, so that they could be used in agricultural machinery,” said Chairman Chih-Sung Chang of a rubber driving belt manufacturing factory of Taiwan.

According to Chih-Sung Chang, the biggest market for the rubber drive belt is overseas. Under the low price dumping of China and the concern about secretly transshipment of Chinese exports via Taiwan, good faith becomes essential, said Chih-Sung Chang.

“My father runs the operations with good faith, from the customers to employees. We conduct thorough inspections at every checkpoint before going to the next one,” said Chih-Sung Chang, the chairman of a rubber drive belt manufacturing factory of Taiwan.

The daily production capacity is 10,000 to 12,000 pieces at least, which will be sufficient for the consumption of Taiwan in one day. Due to the trade war, the traditional industry has to be transformed to accelerate the integration of Taiwan with the world, establishing footholds in the overseas market, said Chih-Sung Chang.
