Votes or Bombs?

Recently, many Chinese "micro-blog celebrities"

have announced their run in local elections,

as independent candidates. At the same time,

farmer Qian Mingqi in Fuzhou, Jiangxi Province

bombed several local government departments,

as he couldn』t petition for his forced demolition case.

Commentators believe the best way for authorities

to dismantle a bomb is through elections.

Well-known critic Li Chengpeng wrote on his blog:

"People ask me why I』m running in this election.

I respond, we are all shareholders in this country.

Each holds one of 1.3 billion shares.”

The Chinese Communist Party (CCP)』s media

Global Times editorial declared:

"Among independent candidates, netizens are most

concerned about people, who have been studying

Western oppositions. They are trying to turn

China』s inclusive culture into a confrontational one.”

Li refuted the argument. He said, not many people

want to oppose anyone. They just want a better life.

Global Times can only see imaginary enemies.

Li: "As Global Times faces much opposition,

to survive, it needs to attack people, therefore

it should change its name to 『Lead Shot Times.』”

Another equally influential independent candidate,

Wuyue Sanren, refuted the editorial in his blog.

He said it was attempting to eliminate any possibility

of independent candidates running for elections.

In mid May, in Xinyu City of Jiangxi Province,

independent candidates Liu Ping, Wei Zhongping

and Li Sihua had been detained and monitored

by police, who impeded their election.

Jiangxi independent candidate Li Sihua: “I went

to People』s Congress to ask about the election,

the staff responded: 'It is none of your business!'”

A netizen commented: “They probably understand

only Qian Mingqi』s voice, not the voice of others.

Farmer Qian Mingqi in Fuzhou, Jiangxi Province

set off bombs that caused many deaths.

Well-known commentator Xiao Shu micro-blogged,

"We are awakening by mushroom clouds.

We need to quickly win the votes that belong to us.

If the despair spreads, numerous Qians will appear.

Bombs can only be dismantled by votes.”

Expert on civil elections Yao Lifa: “We want the end

of (CCP』) theory 』power comes from military might.』

This is a theory of violence and tyranny.

We advocate 』power comes from ballot boxes.』

Yao analyzed the underlying causes

of independent candidates being impeded.

Yao: “Peoples』 independent exercising of legal rights

of participating in elections and being elected

makes the CCP fearful. The CCP truly understands

that when China becomes a democracy, it will die.”

Chinese veteran media professional, Zhang Wen,

wrote on his blog, “Votes or bombs?

These are the two options before the Chinese.

100 years ago, the Qing government

faced the same crisis. Their improper

handling of the issue cost them the power."
