Launched in 2010 shortly after Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo won the Nobel Peace Prize, the Chinese regime is hosting again its “Confucius Peace Prize.”

從2010年中國異議份子劉曉波贏得諾貝爾和平獎不久開始，中國政權再次主辦「孔子和平獎」。

The award’s executive chairman, Liu Haofeng, says they are affiliated with the Chinese Ministry of Culture.

這獎項的執行主席劉浩鋒說，他們是附屬於中國文化部。

This year’s candidates include 21-year-old Gyaincain Norbu. He was selected by the Chinese regime to act as the ‘Panchen Lama.’ The young man often praises the Communist Party rule over Tibet.

今年侯選人包括21歲的額爾德尼•確吉傑布，他被中國政權選為班禪喇嘛。這位年輕人經常稱讚共產黨對西藏的統治。

The Panchen Lama is the second most important figure in Tibetan Buddhism and is traditionally chosen by the Dalai Lama. The Dalai Lama had chosen a young Tibetan boy named Gedhun Choekyi Nyima to be the Panchen Lama back in 1995. The boy and his family “disappeared” soon after.

在藏傳佛教中，班禪喇嘛是第二位最重要的角色，傳統上是由達賴喇嘛所選出的。達賴喇嘛已於1995年選出一位年輕的西藏男孩，名叫更登確吉尼瑪，是（十世）班禪喇嘛額爾德尼‧確吉堅贊的轉世靈童。這位男孩與他的家人後來很快就“消失”了。

Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist Bill Gates is another contender.

Also on the list is Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, known for his dictatorial ways, for the silencing of his critics, and for leading the second Chechen war.

也在名單上的是俄國總理佛拉迪米爾‧普亭，以他專制的統治方法聞名，讓批評者噤聲，以及領導第二次車臣戰爭。

Other nominees include South African president Jacob Zuma, former United Nations chief Kofi Annan, Chinese agricultural scientist Yuan Longping, considered the "father of hybrid rice," and German chancellor Angela Merkel.

Liu says Merkel is chosen for her contribution to peace in Europe, and to prompt her to be more aware of Eastern values. But Liu didn’t explain what he means by “Eastern values.”

劉浩鋒說梅克爾獲選是因為她對歐洲和平的貢獻，並且更認知到東方價值。但劉並未解釋什麼是他所謂的“東方價值”。

The eighth nominee is Taiwanese politician James Soong, founder of the People First Party in the Kuomintang-led faction.

第八位被提名者是台灣的政治人物宋楚瑜，是國民黨所領導的派系親民黨的創辦人。

The recipient of the Confucius Peace Prize will receive more than $15,000—the winner is to be announced on December 9th—one day before the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in Oslo, Norway.

孔子和平獎的受領者將可得到超過15,000美元的獎金，獲獎者將在挪威奧斯陸諾貝爾和平獎頒獎典禮的前一天12月9日宣布。

Liu denies the Chinese peace award was set up to counter the Nobel Peace Prize.

劉浩鋒否認中國和平獎是設置來反制諾貝爾和平獎用的。
