The New iPad is here, although it’s not called the iPad 3. Apple CEO Tim Cook announced the release of what was simply called the “New iPad” at an event at San Francisco’s Yerba Buena Center for the Arts this morning. The new iPad boasts an HD Retina display, a quad-core processor, and 5-mega pixel digital camera. The device also has 4G-network connectivity, and will be available on AT&T and Verizon networks in the US.

新的iPad在這裡，不過它不叫iPad 3。蘋果公司執行長提姆庫克今早在舊金山耶巴布埃納藝術中心的一場活動中，公布了僅被簡單稱作「新iPad」的正式發行。新的iPad擁有高畫質Retina顯示屏幕、四核心處理器，以及5百萬像素的數位相機。該裝置還具有4G網路連線，將在美國的AT＆T和Verizon網路上市。

The new iPad will also feature voice recognition software, allowing users to dictate notes to the device. This feature will also work on some third party applications. Apple says users will be able to update their Facebook status simply by dictating to the device.

新的iPad也採用語音辨識軟體，讓使用者能用語音控制做筆記。這項功能也適用於第三方應用。蘋果公司說，使用者將能夠用語音更新自己的Facebook動態。

According to Apple, the latest iPad will have a similar price tag to the iPad 2 which was released this time last year – starting at 499 dollars for the basic model. There are also several more expensive options with increased memory and 4G connectivity. The most expensive 64-gigabyte model will set consumers back $829. The device will be available to the public on March 16th, however customers can start pre-ordering the new tablet today.

據蘋果公司消息，最新的iPad價格將和去年此時發行的iPad2價格類似 – 基本型499美元起。也有一些更貴的選項，增加記憶體和4G連線功能。最貴的64G型將定價於829美元。這項設備將於3月16日公開販售，但客戶今天就可以開始預訂。

Apple’s Senior Vice-President of Worldwide Marketing, Philip Schiller, stated in a press release: “The new iPad redefines the category Apple created less than two years ago, delivering the most amazing experience people have ever had with technology.”

蘋果公司的全球行銷高級副總菲利普•席勒，在一份新聞稿中表示：「蘋果公司在不到兩年的時間，以新的iPad定義了新的類型，提供人們未曾有過的最棒的科技使用體驗。」

Schiller went on to comment: “The new iPad now has the highest resolution display ever seen on a mobile device with 3.1 million pixels, delivering razor sharp text and unbelievable detail in photos and videos.”

Shares in the NASDAQ listed company were up at the beginning of the day in anticipation of the announcement. Apple has now sold more than 55 million iPads worldwide and the company’s app store has just announced its 25-billionth download. Somewhat ironically, that app was downloaded in China, a country where Apple has been fighting a lawsuit with Chinese tech company, Proview, over the rights to the name “iPad.”

在產品預備公布的當天早上，納斯達克上市公司的股價開始上漲。蘋果目前已在全球售出超過5千5百萬台iPad，該公司的App Store也正好宣布其第250億次下載。但有點諷刺的是，該app是在中國被下載，而在中國，蘋果正在和中國的高科技公司唯冠打官司，訴訟「iPad」名稱的使用權。
