A 25-foot long whale, trapped off Scotland's Shetland Islands.

The humpback whale was spotted on Thursday after it became tangled in a creel line used to catch lobsters and crabs.

Bad weather forced rescuers to postpone a rescue effort by divers to cut the ropes and free the whale.

Animal welfare groups said it would be a dangerous operation.

[Ron Patterson, Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals]:

"As you'll appreciate, putting divers in with something of this size can be a major problem. These are big animals and a flick from the tail could be very serious for any diver, so we shall have to take it very seriously before anybody goes in."

One rescue volunteer remained hopeful that something could be done to save the 30-ton mammal.

"I am just hoping that we can get hold of divers so we can work out some way of releasing it. This is going to be a pretty dangerous operation so a lot of people will have to make some pretty big decisions."

A team of specialist divers from the south of England have been called to carry out the rescue operation, but they will have to act quickly.

Fears are growing about the whale's health as it is coming up for air less frequently.

大家越來越擔心鯨魚的健康，因為出現空氣不足的次數頻繁。
