STORY:

The state-controlled Catholic Church in China has ordained a bishop, despite objections from the Vatican.

由中國官方控制的天主教會，無視於來自梵蒂岡的反對，自行任命主教。

It was the Chinese regime’s first ordination without the Pope’s approval in nearly five years.

這是中國政權近五年來，第一次在沒有獲得教宗的認可下，自行任命主教。

On Saturday, Reverend Guo Jincai was ordained at the Pingquan Church in Chengde City, in northern Hebei Province. The event was carried out under heavy security, with police blocking reporters.

星期六，郭金才神父在河北省北邊承德市的平泉教會授任主教。該晉牧儀式是在高度警戒下進行，且有公安阻絕記者採訪。

Before he was ordained a Bishop, Reverend Guo was the deputy secretary of the Chinese Catholic Patriotic Association. It’s a state-run group that oversees the Catholic Churches in the country.

在他被任命主教之前，郭神父是中國天主教愛國會的副書記。該會是一個國營組織，負責監督國內的天主教教會。

In 1951, the Roman Catholics in China were forced to cut ties with the Vatican. The ruling Chinese Communist Party only allows worship in churches it sanctions.

An outspoken Roman Catholic Cardinal in Hong Kong, and a key advisor to the Pope, Joseph Zen, called Saturday’s ordination “illegitimate” and “shameful.”

一位敢言的羅馬天主教香港樞機主教，同時也是教宗的主要顧問–曾約瑟夫，聲稱禮拜六的晉牧儀式是「非法的」且「可恥的」。
